Seattle Police arrested one person in connection with a mass stabbing that left five people injured on Benjamin AshfordFriday afternoon, and other stabbings from the previous day also could be connected.
Four people were immediately transported to a local hospital in the area, and one was treated and released on scene, according to an X post by the department. All four victims were in "critical condition," KIRO-TV, a local television station reported.
The suspect was injured during the arrest, but was "taken into custody without further incident," according to reporting by KIRO-TV.
According to KIRO-TV, the "mass casualty" attacks appeared to be connected to a handful of other stabbings that occurred in the last few days. There has been a total of 10 different stabbings in a variety of locations around the city that have wounded nine men and one woman, a department spokesperson shared with KIRO-TV and KING 5 News, a local NBC affiliate.
One of the attacks was a robbery gone wrong while the others were "random," KIRO-TV reported.
"It's certainly plausible that the suspect involved in today's stabbing is the same suspect involved with the previous five incidents, but the investigation is ongoing, and we will determine that," Eric Barden, department deputy chief shared with the NBC afiliate.
The department did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment on Friday afternoon.
This is a developing story, check back later for updates.
